Attention all Caps fans who will be at the game on Friday against the Devils: the plan is afoot for as many fans as possible to wear some sort of mirrored sunglasses or visor to taunt Marty Brodeur.
For those of you who are unawares, Marty is the goalie that complained not being about Alexander Ovechkin's mirrored visor, because Marty claimed he couldn't see Ovechkin's eyes. Never mind the fact that a goalie shouldn't be looking at the player's eyes. The competition committee (of which Brodeur is a member of) recommended the rule change, and the NHL's GMs voted for banning the visor by a vote of 29-1. The lone dissenting vote? Caps' General Manager George McPhee
Pick up a cheap pair of sunglasses at the local dollar store and bring them to the game on Friday. Tell all your friends as well. And fellow bloggers? Help spread the word.
AFTERNOON EDIT: We're now accepting absentee donations to help pay for additional shades. Anyone wanting to donate money via Paypal, can do so by sending money to wgoatboy@starpower.net . We'll be accepting donations until 11:30 AM tomorrow. Please chip in!

You guys have fun with that, but no matter what just remember: MARTY'S BETTER!!!!!
Heh.
Visors? Haven't our GMs got anything better to vote on?
Evan,

I never heard a "Ollie is better!" chant before. I doubt Kolzig knows if there is one.
Marty is better. Caps just stink, pre- and post-Jagr.
I betcha Kolzig didn't even know his name was "Ollie"
Haha, this is one of the most ridiculous things I've read in a long time! Caps fans are funny!
29 GMs agreed with Brodeur, so there must be something to it.
Of course the goaltenders want to see the shooters eyes. Not necessarily when they're shooting the puck themselves, but on PPs and plays in the offensive zones when players make plays to throw the defensive team off. Skilled guys often look around to see where all the teammates are and then moves the puck. If people knew how Brodeur plays, and after reading his book it's pretty clear to me that following everything that goes on the ice is crucial to him, and other goaltenders too probably, in order to have success.
Caps fans should stop whining because they're the only ones complaining about this one. 29 teams agreed with Brodeur except for Washington....hmmmm, wonder why :)
Olie's heard an "Olie's Better!" chant before, because I've chanted it.
Psst...
It's SUPPOSED to be funny, SeƱor Anonymous.
Thank you!
Just shoot ."Top shelf where mommy hides the COOKIES!" and the Caps will have no problem. I will be watching with sun glasses ON!
I am sure it will give Marty a good laugh. He will be flattered that people went out of their way to attempt to make fun of him.
The Caps can shoot "top shelf" all they want, but Marty will stop them time after time. He is the best!
Marty is just bitter because he hasn't been able to find an in-law to have relations with lately.
There are three kinds of hockey fans in NY:
Islanders Fans
Rangers Fans
People who hate the Devils.
Seriously, are there really Devils fans? At the last Caps game at MSG I went to, the NJ Transit area was the busiest by far after the game with lost of Lindros and Richter Rags sweaters.
When people have nothing else to insult Marty about they always bring up him having relations with his sister in law. I love it. How original and thought provoking.
Well, Meghann, bringing up the fact Marty fucks his dog is just tasteless.
I know people get worked up about these non-existant rivalries, but let's keep this PG-13 gang, please.
Well Victor, thank you for making such an intellegent comment. That really added a lot to this conversation, and really represents Caps (I am assuming that is who you like) well. That comment just made you look stupid, so thanks.
Whatever, say what you want, but when he is done the record books will speak for themselves.
The funniest part about all of this is the stir its created among Devils fans who think Caps fans are really upset about it. It just kills me they don't get its just a gag and we're having fun. Marty'll understand and think its funny, and that's part of the whole point.
I know it is all in fun and I know Marty will think it is funny. I am sure part of the fun is getting a rise out of us Devils fans, but due to my competitive nature, I am going to say something.
It is just fun, rivalrys and things like this are what makes sports fun.
Judging by the signs and everything I saw on TV, it looked like it was a deliberate attempt to taunt Marty. But what Craps fans don't understand is that nothing can throw Marty off of his game...in fact, by organizing this, you guys probably motivated him to play better. And it worked...4-1, it should have been a shutout if it wasn't for that fluke goal by Clarke.
